Unlike a photo in a frame, a canvas needs to be stretched around 4 stretcher bars (a wooden frame). The question is then, what are you going to see when you're looking at the side of the canvas?

Well, that's up to you, Genius Printing gives you a number of options:

Gallery Wrap

Gallery Wrap involves stretching the entire image around the side and a little bit on the back of the canvas. This is the most traditional way of wrapping, but comes at the cost of losing some of the image to the sides and back of the canvas. Be careful no important features are right on the edge of the image.

Genius Wrap™ (Mirror Wrap)

Introducing Genius Wrap™. Genius Wrap™ takes the last few centimetres of each border, duplicates and mirrors them which makes the entire image "bigger". This is the most popular wrapping type because it still looks gallery wrapped - even though it's not. The other benefit is because your image is effectively bigger, it will print at a higher quality! This means you can select a larger frame size if you want to. This wrapping type works best when the section being mirrored is a background of some kind rather than an important feature.

No Gallery Wrap

No Gallery Wrap is when there's a solid colour on the edge of the canvas. This is ideal for printing images that have an important feature such as a person right up against the edge of the picture and where using a Genius Wrap™ wouldn't look right because that person would be reflected onto the sides of the frame. No Gallery Wrap is also good when reproducing artworks and illustrations or even pro photography.

Pixel Bleed™

Finally, there's the Pixel Bleed™. A Pixel Bleed™ takes the last line of pixels along each edge of the image and stretches those pixels onto the sides of the canvas. If the Genius Wrap™ reflects important features near the edge of the frame in a distracting way, and you don't want a plain or coloured border, then the Pixel Bleed™ is your best option.

So how do you decide? Well, the best thing to do is to upload your image into the Smart Uploader and see exactly what it will look like. There you can see exactly how much of your image will be wrapped and you can even see what a Genius Wrap™ will look like with your image.

If you're still unsure, consider our specialist service (see below). Upload your photo, speak directly with one of our specialists and we'll discuss at length all of your wrapping options and help you come to the best decision.

Through our specialist service, Tonal Reproductions, we offer custom wrapping types. Perhaps some edges need to be Genius Wrapped, while others need to be Gallery Wrapped? Perhaps you would like a particular texture used around the edges and back? You name it, we'll be able to do it.
